Mark R Logsdon |
- |
Mark R. Logsdon, 47, of Swansea, Ill., born Nov. 25, 1962, died on Sunday, March 7, 2010, at Cedar Ridge Health Care Center, Lebanon, Ill., after a four year, hard-fought battle with a terrible cancer, Multiple Myeloma.
Mark grew up in Fairview Heights and graduated from Belleville East High School in 1980. He received a bachelors' degree in business management from Central Missouri State University. In his youth he was active in boy scouting, played in the band, sang in the choir, and served as the manager of his high school football team. Mark was quick to laugh and loved to entertain his friends and family. He was a devoted and loving son, brother, and friend. Mark loved fishing and nature. He played pool and shot darts. Most recently Mark was employed in internet tech support. The pain, suffering, and repeated hospitalizations that Mark endured in the four years he spent confronting his cancer had a positive side: Mark came to see the world differently. He embraced the power of faith and took the time to look inside himself. He realized that he felt a calling to help others and was proud to be accepted into the Masters program in Social Work at SIU Edwardsville in 2008. Unfortunately, the relapse of his cancer prevented him from accomplishing this goal. Mark's life was altered in many ways by the effects of the childhood car accident that left him disabled for life. But nothing could diminish the height of his dreams, the depth of his feelings, or the inspiring strength of his courage in the face of adversity. He never quit fighting for life until the doctors told him they had no more weapons to offer him.
Mark was preceded in death by his father, John Logsdon, and his grandparents, Elmer and Adrienne, nee Traubel, Logsdon and Caspar Henry and Katherine, nee Schanuel, Kampmeyer.
Surviving are his mother, Donna Logsdon, of Belleville, Ill.; his sister and her life-partner, Amy Logsdon and Paul Schroedermeier, of North Liberty, Iowa; and his cousins. Mark is also survived by many special friends of a lifetime and their children -- whom he also thought of as family. Also surviving him is his son, Duron Carrick of Independence Mo.
